The Dubai World Cup, held annually in March since 1996, is the highlight of Dubai’s sporting and social calendar, attracting the best horses, jockeys and trainers from across the globe.
Taking place on the last Saturday in March, the event at Meydan Racecourse, home of the US $30.5 million Dubai World Cup meeting, stages nine races including US$12 million on offer to the winner of the title contest. Such rich pickings positions the Dubai World Cup as the second most valuable race in the world.
This principal Group 1 flat race is run on dirt over a distance of 1.2 miles. Previous winners include dual champion (2018 and 2019) Thunder Snow and, in 2023, the first ever winner foaled, trained and owned by Japan, Ushba Tesoro.
The pomp and pageantry continue after racing with DJs and performers such as Jennifer Lopez, Kylie Minogue, Flo Rida and Rudimental keeping the carnival atmosphere alive long into the evening.
