Hannah Walker • May 30, 2023

Tuesday, 30th May - The popularity of the Betfred Derby at Epsom Downs Racecourse on Saturday, June 3, has been emphatically underlined with the news the world’s greatest Flat race will be showcased by 30 broadcasters in around 150 countries.

The race has captured the imagination of the sports world as Frankie Dettori, arguably the most famous and successful rider to have ever sat on a racehorse, rides in his last ever Derby.

And for the first time, Fancode , the leading OTT sports platform in India, with over 80 million active users, will stream live action from Epsom, taking the World Feed on both days, while the subcontinental audience will also be served by Sony (SPN), who will be showing the one-hour programme on delay. In another first, holidaymakers on selected cruise-line ships can view the live racing via an agreement with Global Eagle .

America will be extremely well catered for, with the Derby being shown live on FOX Sports, the leading sports channel, and the coverage there will be reinforced by Jess Stafford reporting live from Epsom for leading US racing channel Fanduel .

Sky Thoroughbred Central in Australia will also have an on-course presence, with Danny Archer reporting live, as will the Dubai Racing Channel , who will base their six-hour broadcast at Epsom.

CNN International have scheduled in a slot for the Derby on their World Sport programme for Saturday evening, while the mainstay of sports magazine programmes, Trans World Sports, will include the race in their show.

Audiences in UK and Ireland ( ITV, Virgin Media, Racing TV ), rest of Europe ( Viaplay, Setanta, Equidia, Polsat, SilkNet, wedo TV ) Africa ( SuperSport, Racing 240 ), Japan ( Green Channel, NHK ), Hong Kong ( HKJC, Cable TV, TVB, Now TV ), and Latin American and Caribbean ( ESPN / Star +, SportsMax ) will also be well served with live coverage. Focus will be kept on the Epsom Derby via news syndication deals with Reuters and SNTV .

James Crespi, General Manager of Epsom Downs Racecourse , said: “Frankie’s final Derby is no doubt the headline story of this year’s race, and we are delighted audiences from all around the world will be tuning in on Saturday to see if he can sign off in fairy-tale style. I hope everyone enjoys one of the great sporting and social occasions.”
